Llafranc is one of the three cities that make up the municipality of Palafrugell, together with Calella de Palafrugell and Tamariu, in the North of Catalonia. It is located about 2 kilometers on foot from the neighboring town of Calella de Palafrugell, and its beach belongs to the famous Costa Brava.
These 2 kilometers, by the way, are a hiking trail along the cliffs above the sea, which offers breathtaking views of the Llafranc bay.
First we decided to explore the city itself, accomodating in a neighboring one, and were pleasantly surprised. Apparently, the old part of Llafranc has been preserved in a more harmonious form – small houses with tiled roofs along the sea have made the promenade especially attractive. No wonder this city was remembered by such great personalities as Salvador Dali (he generally respected the Spanish Riviera) and Ernest Hemingway (the theme of fishermen and the sea was especially appreciated by him).
The beach of this town is small and compact, located in a bay with fine sand and azure water, and borders a small seaport. On the sides there are the Church of Santa Rosa de Lima with a Roman wine press and Cape San Sebastian, which offers stunning views of the coastline, as well as the San Sebastian de la Guarda complex, which includes the San Sebastian lighthouse, a watchtower and a restored Iberian city. It is also the starting point to begin the coastal trail towards Tamariu through Cala Pedrosa, or to the Can Mina dels Torrents dolmen.
In general, while we were in Llafranc on reconnaissance, we came to the conclusion that we can come here again – for a wonderful holiday there is everything you need. It’s great advantage is its proximity to other popular towns in the region. Such as, for example, Tossa de Mar. Tossa is easily accessible for an evening promenade and local restaurants.
It is also possible to drive to San Feliu, which is also nearby, and taste unrealistically delicious pizza at the local pizzeria Nonna Flo. It’s really worth noting – rumors of awesome local pizza spread far beyond this pretty town.
